Observed 2026-09-05 over reverse-search fare boards covering 12 world regions.

How this was measured

Each board is one region-wide comparison: a single pinned airport at one end of a trip, and every airport in a world region priced against it for the same date. For each board we take the cheapest fare per region airport, find which airport won, and record where that airport sits in the region's hub-ordered list. Boards with fewer than three priced airports are excluded, because a comparison needs something to compare.

Why would a cheaper airport be missing from a normal search?
Cached fare sources cover a market densely in proportion to its traffic, so the airports they are thin on are systematically the secondary ones. In this dataset only about half of a region's airports could be priced at all, and the ones that could not are the same ones most likely to be cheap.
